The state of Karnataka, a State of Indian Republic, (earlier known as the Kingdom of Mysore, pre-1973) is the eighth largest state in India with over a population count (2018) of 68,236,674 people living in an area of 191,976 sq.km (74,122 sq miles) comprising of 30 districts. Geographically, the region of Karnataka occupies three natural regions like the coastal strip, the Sahyadris and the Deccan Plateau. From the Church Administrative view, the Catholic Church in Karnataka is divided into 14 dioceses. It is a missionary Church with 1 Archdiocese and 13 Dioceses forming a total of 14 Ecclesiastical Units. The Church of the Karnataka Region is governed by the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishop’s Council (KRCBC). This governing body of the Karnataka region i.e., KRCBC takes many innovative steps to reach out to the people of God with a message of Jesus. For this purpose the Governing body has taken the initiative of forming 21 Different commissions in order to branch out various responsibilities to continue the mission of Christ in the vineyard of this Karnataka Region.
